During the re-laying of the local water pipe, a burial ground from the Hallstatt period (around 750 BC) was discovered in Uttendorf, about 500 metres west of the village centre. At the nearby Stoanabichl, which is connected to the burial ground by an old road, the archaeologists came across the associated high-altitude settlement.
The finds (jewellery, tools, ceramic vessels, etc. ) provide insights into the way of life of the prehistoric inhabitants of Uttendorf and point to transalpine trade connections, for example to Germany, Upper Italy and Slovenia.
A visit to the Celtic village Uttendorf offers fascinating insights into the everyday life of the Celts.
