The passionate cook

Toni Seber

Toni has seen and experienced a great deal. He has travelled all over the world with his wife Sylvia. They spent at least half a year on every continent. He knows that the Pinzgau is one of the most beautiful regions – in the whole world. Wow! What we absolutely must preserve, what he thinks we can still learn, and what really matters in the world of gastronomy. This is what the passionate chef Toni Seber – the man in the hat – tells us in his restaurant ‘Sunnseit’, on the sunny side of the Hohe Tauern.

He had always wanted to be a chef. After completing his apprenticeship in Tyrol, the Mittersill native stayed there to work until 2008. This was probably partly because he met his wife, Sylvia. They were young and set out to explore the world at an early age. For this globetrotter – as he describes himself – the catering industry is the most wonderful profession. “We must make working in the catering industry worthwhile – for everyone involved.” This is also the guiding principle behind their business: “Food with a vision”. Not because of the view – which, admittedly, is magnificent – but he interprets the word in a figurative sense: to create a dining experience in which staff, nature, producers, guests and chefs all thrive equally. In his view, this is also the way forward.

When the sun bathes the valley in light in the morning and casts an atmospheric glow over the terrace in the evening; when the last guest of the day leaves the mountain restaurant feeling satisfied – that’s when the couple who run the business know they’ve done everything right. “Making our guests happy and witnessing that first-hand fulfils us and reaffirms our belief in what we do and what we stand for.”
