A castle, like a fortress

Kaprun Castle

This castle features at almost every wedding. But it’s not just weddings that go down in history up here for ever and ever; cultural events such as Oktoberfest, the Kaprun Castle Festival or the Spring Fair – featuring over 50 different exhibitors showcasing traditional crafts – also enchant visitors in their own unique way. If you’d like to take in this impressive atmosphere in peace and quiet, simply combine a private tour of the castle with a leisurely stroll – here in the Pinzgau, even the millers have discovered a love of hiking.

Unfortunately, there are no precise records documenting the construction of Kaprun Castle in writing, but it is estimated to date from the 12th century. This is based on the fact that the east tower displays Romanesque features.
In 1280, the ‘Turn zu Chaprunne’ is mentioned in a document as compensation for the raids by the Velbers. The castle is thought to have been owned initially by the Counts of Falkenstein or Peilstein.
