Stoanabichl Celtic Village, Uttendorf

During the re-laying of the local water main, a burial ground dating from the Hallstatt period (around 750 BC) was discovered in Uttendorf, some 500 metres west of the village centre. At the nearby Stoanabichl, which is connected to the burial ground by an ancient path, the archaeologists came across the associated hilltop settlement.

The artefacts (jewellery, tools, ceramic vessels, etc.) provide insights into the way of life of Uttendorf’s prehistoric inhabitants and point to transalpine trade links, for example to Germany, northern Italy and Slovenia.
