Life is painted in the most vibrant colours: sometimes the warm hues of the first rays of sunshine accompany us throughout the day; at other times, our lives shimmer in brilliant rainbow colours; and on some days, the grey tones of monotonous everyday life prevail. “Colours dominate our lives,” says Kurt Lechner. “In a room, the walls are what directly touch us and have an effect on us.” This is also reflected in their slogan, “Live your walls”.
The master painter has been fascinated by the interplay of colours and their effects since his youth. His grandfather and father were masters of their craft and “as was the custom back then, I took over the business as the eldest son,” explains Kurt. That was over 30 years ago now: “I was in my early twenties; I’d travelled about a lot before that, and then everything just fell into place.”

What many people don’t know is that the current ‘Maler Lechner Haus’ – as the building is known locally – served as the Mittersill schoolhouse from 1833 onwards. In 1949, Fritz Lechner’s grandfather bought it and set up a painting studio there. Sometimes customers come in who still have vivid memories of their school days in this building. “Oh, that staircase – it led up to the classrooms,” and similar comments really warm Monika’s heart. “It is an honour to be able to work in a building steeped in history that was once so full of life, and to carry that legacy forward.”
