Pinzgauer Lokalbahn Nostalgia Train

Whilst it once evoked a sense of the future, today it offers a glimpse into the past – a journey on a proper steam locomotive. We are amazed all over again every time this quaint railway chugs along the tracks through the Oberpinzgau.
You could hardly get any closer to time travel.
The clattering of the rails, the unmistakable sound of the nostalgic train whistle and this incomparably beautiful landscape make a journey on this railway an unforgettable experience.

A ride on the Pinzgauer Lokalbahn steam train isn’t just sure to make children’s eyes light up. It’s hard not to feel a sense of wonder yourself when the locomotive lets out a whistle, the wheels slowly start to turn and white steam hisses across the tracks.
It’s pure nostalgia along the Salzach from Zell am See to Krimml. Our tip: just leave your smartphone and camera in your bag – there’s no Wi-Fi here anyway. Not even at the Krimml Waterfalls – though by this point at the latest, you’ll want to get your camera out.

‘Full steam ahead’ may sound fast, but it isn’t necessarily so. Refreshments are therefore provided during the journey – the highlight is undoubtedly the sausages, which are grilled on the boiler of the steam locomotive. Drinks to go with them are served in the “Pinzga Schenke” dining carriage.
As a passenger on the Pinzgauer Lokalbahn, you’ll want for nothing. Tickets can be purchased on board from the train attendants and at the Customer Centre in Mittersill. You can even get a discount with the National Park Summer Card. Important: don’t forget to book!
