The central location

Mittersill has been a thriving commercial centre for many centuries. This is due to its central location on one of Austria’s major north-south routes – between the Thurn and Felbertauern passes. Where mule-track trade once flourished, the Felbertauern Road – one of Europe’s most beautiful mountain roads – now winds its way through our region. As a transport hub, however, the main national road running east to west also passes through the Upper Pinzgau, right through the heart of Mittersill. So when you come to visit us, you’ll definitely be right in the thick of things rather than just on the sidelines!

Do all roads lead to Rome? No, to Mittersill - Hollersbach - Stuhlfelden! No matter which direction you’re coming from – if you’re heading to the Oberpinzgau, there’s no getting round the town of Mittersill. However, anyone who merely passes through Mittersill is really only having themselves to blame. Much to the delight of the locals, the little town has retained its original character.
Here, the natural beauty of the National Parks and the town’s historic sights of the town go hand in hand. People still greet one another on the streets, children play outside and the train still runs no more than once an hour. Whether by car, train or plane, all modes of transport will take you to Mittersill – Hollersbach – Stuhlfelden.

Thanks to this superb geographical location, our region is therefore a perfect holiday destination and the ideal starting point for all sorts of activities and excursions. For example, within 60 minutes you can reach 12 different golf courses or over 10 different lakes and swimming pools. Within about 20 minutes you can reach the district capital, Zell am See, and the Kitzsteinhorn glacier is also within easy reach. If you decide to head in the opposite direction, in half an hour you’ll also reach Europe’s highest waterfalls, the Krimml Waterfalls. Innsbruck and the city of Salzburg are just under 1.5 hours away, and it takes about 2 hours to reach us from Munich.
